In my role as the leader of SkyCity Adelaide I am deeply committed to embedding our Work Health and Safety (WHS) mission of preventing harm to our team, customers, contractors, and others that our business impacts. As a leader in gaming, entertainment, and hospitality experiences, safety is non-negotiable.
Within our health and safety strategy, supported by our WHS program, we set measurable objectives and targets aimed at eliminating or minimising injury and illness. Focusing on key injury mechanisms – that is, the ways that people can sustain injury from their working environment – we aim to both ensure compliance and build wellness among our team, while catering to a diverse range of capabilities and needs.

Safety is non-negotiable
Avril Baynes
As Managing Director, I acknowledge the various legislative requirements we must comply with. I represent the ‘person conducting the business or undertaking’ (PCBU) and are tasked with a duty to ensure a safe environment for all, a duty I do not take lightly.
Every SkyCity team member plays a vital part in health and safety and has responsibilities defined in their role. I expect all team members, contractors, and visitors to adhere to our policies, procedures, and guidelines, and to conduct themselves in a safe manner so as not to place themselves or others at risk. This will be reinforced through specific instruction and training, provided to you as required.

We must all be vigilant to identify and resolve hazards using a risk-based approach; monitoring possible risks, creating controls to minimise them, and continuously evaluating which controls are working effectively. Our online safety portal, Donesafe, facilitates accurate and timely reporting of health and safety events. It is accessible on any mobile device – or at the SkyCity safety hub – and provides safety information for our team and third parties such as contractors. We have an internal health and safety team who support us on our journey and may engage external expertise as needed.
In the event of an unfortunate injury, our responsibility extends to a safe and early return to meaningful and productive work, supported by our people leaders and injury management program. I am committed to equitable claims management with integrity.

Fostering an environment where our staff feel valued and listened to is vital. Continuous improvement will be the key to our ongoing success, and this can only be achieved through effective consultation, facilitated by two-way feedback and communication with all stakeholders.
Only through our collective efforts can we prevent harm and build wellness at SkyCity – your assistance on this journey is appreciated.
Avril Baynes,
Managing Director – SkyCity Adelaide
